From Leeuwarden Central Station, you can reach AquaZoo by bus. Take one of the Qbuzz lines 13, 21, 51, 62, or 151. Then get off at the “AquaZoo, Leeuwarden” bus stop. The bus stop is located about 600 meters from the park entrance.
The AquaZoo parking lot is located 50 meters from the entrance. Four parking spaces are reserved for guests with disabilities. You can drive up to 10 meters from the entrance.

AquaZoo has a number of wheelchairs available. You can borrow one during your visit. To ensure availability, we recommend reserving a wheelchair in advance via info@aquazoo.nl.
Guide dogs and service dogs are only permitted if they have been vaccinated. Walk-through exhibits, such as those featuring kangaroos, ring-tailed lemurs, and penguins, cannot be visited. Staff are always willing to assist and suggest an alternative route. Dogs must always be kept on a short leash. Handlers of service dogs may be asked to show their identification.

Barrier-free venue
AquaZoo is a barrier-free venue. Any steps higher than 2 cm are compensated for by a ramp or step aid. There are no stairs in the park, with the exception of the observation tower by the sand martin wall, which can only be accessed via a staircase. All passageways are wider than 90 cm. There are no separate wheelchair entrances.
There are no raised areas in the park. However, there is a sunken area near the beavers’ enclosure, accessible via a ramp.

Adapted toilets
Wheelchair-accessible toilets are available both in the main building and near the playground in the Amur area.
These cubicles measure 2 metres wide by 2 metres long. There is also a pull cord which a visitor can use in an emergency. The alarm will then sound at both reception and the café. Every member of staff recognises this alarm and will take appropriate action. In addition, there are two grab rails available in the toilet.

Seating and rest areas
In the catering areas in the main building and near the playground in the Amur area, there are seats with handrails. You will also find various seating areas scattered throughout the park. These are wooden benches with backrests but without armrests. There are also picnic benches near the water playground in the park.
There are no reclining rest areas available at AquaZoo. Portable chairs are available on request. These are lightweight and easy to move.

Visiting with children
A nappy-changing table is available in all ladies’ toilets. At the Beach Club in the Amoer area, a nappy-changing table is available in the disabled toilet in both the men’s and ladies’ toilets.
Both the restaurant in the main building and the Beach Club have a microwave available for warming up bottles or vegetable snacks. There are also a number of high chairs available for free use.
From the end of April 2026, pushcarts will be available for hire at AquaZoo.

Sensitive to stimuli
Background music can be heard in some areas, such as the restaurant and the Wadden Sea area. Other sounds can also be heard in the Wadden Sea area. The rest of the park is quiet. A sound system is used during educational presentations, which are often attended by many visitors. The presentations take place outdoors.
If you would like to use a low-stimulus area, our emergency response room is available. You can enquire about this at reception in the main building.

Educational presentations
Educational presentations take place every day at the red pandas, polar bears, Amur tigers and raccoons. These presentations are fun, informative and interactive. They are suitable for blind or visually impaired visitors and visitors in wheelchairs. You can find the full programme with descriptions on our website.

Experiences in the park
In the Amur area, you’ll find two interactive information boards near the Amur tigers. Here, you can touch a number of 3D models of the tiger’s body parts. When you press the button next to a body part, an audio recording provides information about it. You can also learn more about the tiger’s habitat through interactive cubes. Various educational boards in the park are wheelchair accessible, such as the board about the trout project ‘Fishing for Connection’. The animated videos here are subtitled. The videos in the Wadden Sea area are also subtitled.

Emergency/First Aid
You can approach any member of staff at AquaZoo to report an emergency. The staff will then call in the appropriate personnel. Emergency response equipment is located in a separate room, situated near the reception and the entrance. Small first-aid items such as plasters and bandages are available at every catering outlet and at reception.
What should I keep in mind during my visit?
Both in the restaurant and at the Beach Club and food truck, we operate on a self-service basis. Naturally, AquaZoo staff are always happy to help whenever required and when it is not too busy.
AquaZoo does not have tactile guidance lines, indoor navigation aids, materials in Braille or audio descriptions. Larger signs use a font size of 18pt or larger.
AquaZoo does not have an induction loop, sign language interpreters or vibrating vests. Subtitles are displayed on some TVs showing educational videos.
The Sunflower Keycord is not recognised by all AquaZoo staff. There are no low-stimulus hours available.
Some paths are unpaved. There are also gates in the park in walk-through areas such as those housing ring-tailed lemurs, Humboldt penguins and red kangaroos.
