Misschien heb je je wel eens afgevraagd waar de dieren die in AquaZoo Leeuwarden leven eigenlijk vandaan komen en wat de rol van een dierentuin is. Al je vragen over dit onderwerp beantwoorden we op deze pagina.

De rol van een dierentuin
Veel dieren die je in het park ziet zijn hier geboren, anderen zijn vanuit andere dierentuinen naar AquaZoo verhuist. Er worden dus geen dieren uit het wild gehaald en naar ons park gebracht. Één van de belangrijkste taken van dierentuinen is het beschermen en behouden van (bedreigde) diersoorten. We werken samen met andere erkende Europese parken om deze taak zo goed mogelijk uit te voeren. Veel van de dieren die je in AquaZoo ziet hebben de status 'kwetsbaar' tot 'uitgestorven in het wild'. Met managementprogramma's zorgen we voor een gezonde reservepopulatie van deze diersoorten. Wanneer mogelijk worden dieren uitgezet in het wild, ook wordt er onderzoek gedaan naar deze dieren zodat we met de resultaten wilde soortgenoten kunnen helpen. Het is belangrijk om te weten dat erkende dierentuinen geen dieren kopen of verkopen. De dieren zijn geen bezit van een park en verhuizingen vind enkel plaats in het belang van de diersoort.

In ZooParc Overloon, guided tours, children's parties and theme days are organized by a friendly and enthusiastic team of volunteer guides from Stichting Wildlife. Due to the growth of our activities, we are regularly looking for more people who want to participate. Volunteer guides receive free training so that they can start working with solid knowledge.

Met wie werken wij samen?
Wij zijn lid van EAZA (European Association of Zoos and Aquaria). Een park mag zich hierbij aansluiten als het voldoet aan criteria voor bijvoorbeeld EEP's, leefomstandigheden van de dieren, onderzoek en educatie. Er zijn ongeveer 350 parken in Europa lid van EAZA. Het verhuizen van dieren voor een managementprogramma vindt bij voorkeur plaats met één van de leden.
Daarnaast is AquaZoo lid van de NVD (Nederlandse Vereniging van Dierentuinen). Hier wordt nauw samengewerkt aan het behoud en de bescherming van de natuur, onderzoek om dit te ondersteunen en een mooie dag uit met goede educatie voor bezoekers.
Een lidmaatschap van de NVD en/of EAZA kan gezien worden als kwaliteitskeurmerk voor dierentuinen.
Have fun with the whole family
From splashing in the heated swimming pool to taking a dip in the natural swimming pond and from a game of bowling or dancing with the entertainment team to meeting the animals at the petting zoo. You will also receive a free Attraction Pass which gives you access to Safaripark Beekse Bergen, Dierenrijk and ZooParc Overloon, among others!
